FILMDAYTON FILM FESTIVAL

Thank You Dayton!

The 3rd annual FilmDayton Festival (May 20-22, 2011) was a success with an audience of 1,130 from Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus and points between, experiencing 15 films, five workshops and three film “events” at downtown Dayton’s NEON Movies, ThinkTV, Wiley’s Comedy Club, the Victoria Theatre and the Cannery Art & Design Center. Featuring movies FROM Dayton (films made by people who grew up and learned their craft here) and films FOR Dayton (films featured at the Sundance and South-by-Southwest festivals among others which FilmDayton brought to the region first), we increased tickets sales from last year by 16%. The festival rocked this year! The numbers don't convey the vibe - the energy of this young and growing event was really awesome. Everyone did outstanding work, putting in so many hours to make something cool happen in Dayton. Strong films, good guests, the surprising coolness of Skyping in guests - all terrific.

Once again, hometown pride infused the fest; but this year, we took it up a notch. We welcomed 27 filmmakers, screenwriters and producers — 21 of them native or current Daytonians and six visiting from Austin, Copenhagen, Detroit, Los Angeles and Sarasota — who participated Q&As, workshops and events. This was an ambitious step forward in our fest goal both give our local film community the chance to interact with talent from around the globe, and to give the outside world exposure to the level of talent we have right here at home.

Thanks to our Board; our sponsors DP&L, SOCHE, Dayton Daily News, Wright State University, 91,3 WYSO Public Radio, ThinkTV, Dayton Most Metro, The NEON, Stafford Jewelers, The Marketing Formula, The Now Device and Markey’s Rental and Staging; our Members; our fest committees; our Volunteers; our local film community and film colleagues across the state; and all who worked so hard to make the fest a success! Special shout-outs to Patrick Martin; Lisa and TR Routsong; Beth Duke; Jonathan, Diana and the staff at NEON Movies; and Bridget and Justin at The Marketing Formula.
